From sparks of inspiration to finished music from the soul.

Supporting both the technical craft and the deeper creative process

I’m currently offering one-on-one music production lessons, both in person and online. Whether you’re completely new to producing music or looking to refine your existing skills, I can help you build a solid foundation and accelerate your progress. Lessons are available locally in Arcata, Eureka, and McKinleyville, or remotely via Zoom.

Whether you’re hoping to produce your first song, finish an EP or album, improve your mixes, or simply learn to express yourself through music, I can help you get there. My teaching is tailored to your experience level, learning style, and creative goals, so we can focus on what will move you forward the fastest.

I primarily teach Ableton Live, the digital audio workstation I’ve been using professionally for over a decade. Throughout that time I’ve released more than 120 original tracks, developed an extensive production workflow, and toured/played shows alongside artists such as CloZee, Tor, & Shpongle. Along the way, I’ve gained firsthand experience in music production, live performance, and the music industry. I’m excited to pass on this knowledge to the next generation of artists.

Testimonials

“There’s that old saying ‘When the student is ready, the teacher will appear’. I’ve spent years self-learning DAWless music production, but had hit a plateau, and needed some direction to reinvigorate my progress.

VOLO met me right where I was at, equipping me with a tailored full stack of immediately useful advice, ranging from guidance and mindset for a continuously productive creative workflow, down to specific technical details to keep in mind when producing and arranging. Through the whole interaction, VOLO was kind, thoughtful, and deeply insightful – he’s an expert of his craft. I’m so grateful for his help, and inspired to push on with my musical journey!”

“About a year ago, I took a number of lessons with VOLO, and they were awesome. I had a ton of fun. It all happened kind of serendipitously—I emailed him out of the blue, he wrote back, and it turned into this really fun, natural experience. We ended up doing a number of lessons together.

The level of knowledge he has about the music production process is incredible. He’s especially great at answering really specific questions, whether it’s how to get a project started, how to finish a project—which I think we’re all struggling with all the time—or how to actually get a song across the finish line. He also has all sorts of tips, tricks, and little techniques, from automation to workflow, that help you get your music sounding the way you want it to.

So if you’re thinking about working with Oliver, I highly recommend it. You’ll have a great time. He’s a super cool guy, super chill, really easy to learn from, and just a genuinely kind person you’ll enjoy spending time with. And on top of that, he’s very, very good at what he does. “
